Catastrophic Blues
Written for @sjmromanceweek
Prompt: Favorite tropes (exes to lovers yay!)
I wrote most of this oneshot a year ago, and I never posted because it’s so sad, and also it’s the only time I fully trauma dumped on my fics. Anyway. Enjoy this thing that was based on one of the most pathetic days of my life lol

The low lighting the uber had at night only called more attention to the cold, churning mess that was Aelin’s stomach. It was the lack of something to focus on when what she needs right now is sensory overload. The smell of alcohol, loud music, strobe lights.
Aelin wanted to focus on anything that wasn’t her destination—or who she’d meet there.
It was fine. She was fine.
It was Fenrys' birthday. The cheeriest of Aelin's cheery friends. Aelin definitely couldn't miss his birthday. Today was about Fenrys, and not the ex-boyfriend who was also invited.
But Aelin was fine. It wasn't a big deal. It’d been more than a month since they broke up, and Rowan even texted her asking if she’d be comfortable if he brought his new girl tonight.
How considerate of him.
But Aelin agreed, with no regrets. The only thing she regretted was merging her group of friends with her ex-boyfriend when they were dating. That was something she’d keep in mind for the next time she met someone.
Out of the car and in front of the bar, Aelin let the cool summer breeze wash her nerves away. He was probably in there already, always on time. She knew this would eventually happen when they broke up and decided to stay friends for the sake of the gang. There was no need for her to freak out—good thing she wasn't. And if she acted weirdly today, what would Rowan do a month from now?
The crowded place was booming with laughter and drunken yells, busy waiters running around the place, barely paying attention to the graceless group of friends singing Bohemian Rhapsody at karaoke.
A large hand gripped her waist, turning her towards the source, and Aelin met a smiling pair of onyx eyes.
“Hey, gorgeous.”
“Fen!” She hugged her friend and handed him his present, wishing him a happy birthday.
“Everyone’s at a big table back there, and…” Fenrys trailed, trying to read something on Aelin’s expression. Whatever words he was about to say died in his throat.
Aelin crossed her arms. “Spill.”
He shrugged. “You’re hotter than her.”
Lyria, he meant. And Aelin agreed, she was definitely hotter. It wasn’t hard to find Rowan’s new girl on Instagram after she commented a red heart on his last picture like a dog peeing on the comment section for territory. She found out about it even before he told her himself.
Aelin narrowed her eyes at Fen. “I’m over him.”
He shrugged. “Just thought you’d like to hear it.”
Her smirk was met with a similar one from Fenrys. He knows her too well.
Then Aelin shook her head, chastising herself for such thoughts. She was the one to end things, due to her… distressing circumstances. She had no right to shame Rowan for settling for a less hot person.
It’s not like she cared, anyway.
Stepping onto the back of the bar, Aelin quickly spotted the table and greeted everyone—including the lovebirds.
Rowan was stiff like a robot, and Lyria was polite. Bland. Guess he lied when he said he liked Aelin’s fiery personality and the way they clashed, since his new girlfriend is the total opposite. He’d probably still be his dutiful self to her in a month, and Aelin would be in Suria with rows of men—or vodka, most likely—lying at her feet.
She sat beside Elide and ordered a non-alcoholic beer—the doctor had cleared her to drink alcohol with moderation by now, but she didn’t want to risk it. Connall decided to restart whatever work gossip he was telling to keep Aelin in the loop.
She was paying attention, or at least she was trying to, but—why did Rowan shave off his beard? God, she loved his jawline. How it looked so firm by far, but felt so soft under her lips and teeth. Aelin could still remember how his beard tickled against her skin when he decided to grow it, or even better, the feeling of it against her thighs when he--
"Ace, are you alright?" Elide whispered in her ear, "You look a little lost."
Aelin blinked, trying to focus on her friends. Apart from Ellie, no one noticed she'd zoned out. Looking back at her friend, Aelin nodded, a small smile on her lips.
Her friend arched one eyebrow. "Are you sure?"
Rolling her eyes, Aelin chuckled. "Of course."
Looking back at everyone, she caught Rowan’s eyes on her. Busted, the only thing left for him to do was send her a small, close-lipped smile and tip his head to the Heineken 0.0% she clutched. Aelin raised it and took a long swig, letting the bitter beverage go down throat, the feeling so close to the real thing.
He feels proud of her growth. Not a big deal when he keeps a perky brunette under his arm.
But she knew this feeling was just an initial clash of their lives apart. Aelin was fine, she truly was. Her feelings towards Rowan would never be the same she had to a regular friend, because the nature of their memories together was different. Erasing their history was impossible, so it was either fully leave or learn how to live in the shadows of what they used to be.
This hollowness she felt in her chest was just an initial shock, an adjustment. Aelin wasn't the only person in the world to lose the love of her life, and some of them even did great after that, with their second-best significant ones.
No one can keep every good thing that happens in their life forever. Even if said good best thing is right there, standing in front of you.
Actually, she was wrong. Aelin did keep Rowan in her life. As a friend. Which was enough, and just what she needed.
“…Right, Ace?”
Aelin blinked, being dragged out of her thoughts back into the conversation. “Excuse me?”
Elide sighed. “The birthday cake, Fenrys got it from Emrys’. Isn’t that the place you recommended to him?”
“Oh.” Aelin blinked. “Yes. Absolutely, yes. They’re the best.”
Ellie gave her a quick look that was hard to decipher, but maybe it was time for Aelin to pay attention.
And pay attention she did. She leaned on the table and held her chin under her palm. Turns out the owners of Emrys’ are regulars at the motel Fenrys works at. Disgusting news to hear, and Connall agreed with her unshared thoughts. Fenrys accused his brother of being homophobic, since they’re talking about a gay couple. Connall retorted, saying that he can’t be homophobic if he’s gay, and it’s not prejudice if he hates everyone equally.
The twins bickered on and on. Rowan watched them as if it was a tennis match, with undiluted attention, while Lyria seemed endlessly amused by it.
Aelin wished she had stayed home.
But she came here for Fenrys, and for Fenrys she stayed. And stayed and stayed and stayed until that fucking song started playing. For Mala’s sake, today was not her day.
Aelin looked around, trying not to be too obvious that she was looking at them. Trying not to look too much or too little.
He's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel, the other on my heart.
Rowan took Lyria's hand and held it against his chest.
Just like he used to do with her.
Aelin swallowed, her chest shrinking. She was going to be sick.
She excused herself and got up, walking to another section of the bar near the restrooms where she couldn't be seen from the table, and leaned against the wall, closing her eyes.
Breathe in.
She could still feel the shape of Rowan’s lips against hers.
Breathe out.
She could still feel the weight of his body above hers.
Breathe in.
She could still feel his calloused hands caressing her bare back in bed.
Breathe out.
Her heart was beating just as much as on the day she finally got the courage to cuddle him after sex, almost two years ago. When she first rested her head on the crook of his neck, Aelin scented her favorite version of Rowan’s smell because it was completely ingrained with hers. And she did it again. And again. And again. Her hand could trace the shape of him even that long after the last time they were together. She hated how much she'd cling to those small details, and she hated even more that she cared about this. Because she did. Aelin would barely admit it to herself, but of course she did.
She took a deep breath, ignored her quivering stomach and schooled herself, walking to the bar's counter.
The man next to her leaned on the counter so much he was half laid in it, but he still managed to turn his piercing blue eyes at Aelin and smile.
"Can’t find a bartender," he complained, his speech slurred. "I need a beer."
Aelin chuckled, leaning her forearms on the surface too. "And I need water."
He raised his head a little. "I'm Dorian."
"Aelin." She looked at him up and down, from the fumbled hair to the rumpled clothes and untied shoes. “Are you sure the bartenders aren’t bartending you on purpose?”
“I’m sure they are.”
“Huh.” Aelin scanned the liquor selection, tempted. She really was doing better with this new medication, and Dr. Hafiza cleared her for an occasional drink. She could definitely use a drink now. Instead, she tilted her head at Dorian and said, “Did you lose a puppy or something? Or this is just your usual Friday night?”
He ran a hand through his hair and grinned at her, so confident it reminded her of Fenrys. "My answer depends on whether you're giving me your number or not."
Aelin snorted. She thought of how satisfying it would be to watch Rowan watch her leave the bar with someone else, but a drunk wouldn't do. Besides, this wasn't a competition. Aelin had already lost.
"Not a chance. Spill."
He sighed and slumped again on the countertop, hitting his head against it.
"My situationship doesn't see me as dating material."
Aelin grimaced. "That sucks"
He waved a hand, dismissing her pity. "You?"
Her mind went back to a year ago, how he stood by her side, red-rimmed green eyes when Aelin became a shell of herself. How his anxiety skyrocketed when hers did too. How well he was doing now that she wasn't his problem anymore.
A bitter chuckle left her lips. "My sadness is contagious."
Dorian rolled his eyes. “I just bared my soul to you, and this is what you tell me?”
“You did not!”
“I’m gonna get another drink if you don’t entertain me.”
“Is this a threat?”
“Absolutely, yes.”
Aelin sighed, looking up while she gathered her thoughts. “I broke up with my boyfriend.”
“Obviously.”
“Because I was bringing him down. No drama. We decided to not break up our group of friends.”
“No drama, you said?”
“He’s with his new girlfriend at the back of the bar and all my friends are schmoozing with her now.”
“I sense drama.”
“And we have a trip booked for next month we didn’t discuss.”
“Paid it all before the breakup, huh?”
Aelin nodded and ordered two waters before they traded stories about their pathetic love lives. She didn’t know how long they stayed there, neither if she liked Dorian or just this escape from the table from hell, but being here was a respite.
They were about six Tinder horror stories in when a hand landed on Aelin’s shoulder, making her jump, heart racing with surprise.
Rowan stood beside her with his trademark frown. “It’s been a while since you left the table.”
“Yup.” What was she supposed to say?
He jutted his chin towards Dorian. “Is he bothering you?”
“Not at all.” She squared her shoulders, trying to find a light way to describe their pity party. “This is Dorian. I’m getting funny dating stories out of him before I call an uber and send him back to his world of heartless women and tawdry men.”
“I see,” he trailed, eyes trained on them, and took a step back. “Okay. I have to go back there, but if you—“
“I know.” She waved him off. He needed to be at the table and be a good boyfriend to someone else, she got it.
Aelin was fully aware that her mind was going on a petty path, but she couldn’t help it. Yes, Lyria was nice. Yes, Lyria had been nothing but polite to her the entire night. The only problem was that Lyria was dating the wrong person. Or the perfect one, if Aelin wanted to address her issues more directly.
She banged her head against the disgusting counter, resting there to contemplate this rare moment of self-pity.
Aelin dug her own grave.
Dorian had his eyebrows raised. “Damn, he’s hot.”
“And thoughtful.”
“I wasn’t thinking about his thoughtfulness when he murdered me with his eyes.”
“He did not.”
“He did. And you know why.”
“I do not.” Aelin sipped her water. “Anyway, what happened to the guy who was cheating on his wife with you?”
Dorian’s eyes sparkled with the memory of this unfinished divorce story, and she was thankful to get the spotlight of the conversation away from her.
Unlike Aelin, Rowan had his shit together and was happy. She wouldn't—actually, she couldn't—disturb this little peace he found after she cut him off.
Her selfishness only went so far.

Time to celebrate Freddie by yapping about him. Fuck this going to take a long time.
Alright, first off, amazing fucking singer, I have not heard a person who has a more amazing voice then Freddie fucking Mercury. He was the best at singing, he could play piano, he could play a bit of guitar. He wrote amazing songs a lot of which became massive hits like Bohemian Rhapsody, Save Me, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, Somebody to Love, Killer Queen, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and many other ones that I will cry if I hear them start playing in public. And speaking of Crazy Little Thing Called Love, he wrote that in ten minutes in the fucking bathtub, AND I'M PISSED OFF THAT THAT SCENE DIDN'T GET INTO THE MOVIE.
And performing live he was the best. I normally can't sit down and focus on watching one thing for a long time, I usually have to be on my phone at the same time, but when I'm watching Queen concerts I can watch the full thing without needing to look at my phone and without getting distracted because it's just so fucking beautiful. The only times I would want to go on my phone while watching them is to yap about how amazing it is on Tumblr. He was a fucking god when he performed live, and I could enjoy any song if he was singing it, because his voice was purely majestic and amazing. It has been said by multiple people that Queen stole the show, and that is definetely true. Freddie had such a big presence on stage when performed and he could get anyone to sing along with him which is proven by the ay-oh segments and how people sing and dance along to the songs.
And he has other talents outside of singing and piano and all that. He also earned a degree in graphic art and design and can draw really good. He designed the Queen logo himself and it is one of the prettiest logos I have seen, and it has meanings behind it. The fairies is to represent Freddie being a virgo, the lions are Roger and John being Leos and Brian is the crab for Cancer. There's the Q and the crown in the middle for Queen, the pheonix in the back pulling everything together, making it look cool and making them seem as strong as they are, and the crab is on fire to represent Brian being hot as hell (jk. although that should be true). The logo is so fucking pretty and detailed and I am proud to say I have a giant one of it hanging from my wall.
Freddie was really outgoing and exotic on stage and it was amazing, and even though he was still kind of like that offstage, it's known that he was also pretty shy and sweet and I fucking love that. He was unique and strong and headstrong and everything but he was also sweet and kind and shy and insercure about things and I love that because it shows that hes human which he is and sometimes people don't remember that because of how incredible on stage he was. It's something people forget about a lot of celebrities. I don't like that he was insecure about things that I honestly love about him, like his teeth because his smile is so pretty, but I love how it shows that he's just some normal guy with so much talent.
He was so sweet. I heard somewhere that apparently that sometimes he would see on the tv that people were struggling financially he would anounmosulflglyy send them $10'000 or something to help them out. I'm saying apparently because I haven't fact checked it or anything but I choose to believe that because it's really cute and sweet. There was also a story where he got introduced to someone who was with their mum and he was kind of shy and stuff and later he went to a vending machine thing where you can get trinkets and he got one that matches with another one. Then he went back to the mum and gave her one and asked her to give it to her daughter and that IS SO FUCKING CUTEEEE. The girl was so lucky to have a lucky trinket from Freddie Mercury and then had one that matches?! AAAAAA.
He could stand up for himself really well as well despite the fact that he was kind of shy. There was a time when Queen was recording in a recording studio and the Sex Pistols were recording near them. Sid Vicious randomly came into their recording studio and started being a dick and annoying them and all that shit and Freddie went up to him called him Simon Ferocious which Sid didn't like and then pushed him out the door which was amazing. There was another time with a fan when he was eating dinner and a fan came up to him with a piece of paper to sign and a pen and pretty much shoved in his face. Freddie told him to leave him alone because he was eating. When he finished he went up to the fans table and lectured him on not being rude and having manners and then signed the paper for him. Good on him. In my opinion that was the right thing to do. I know other celebrities have done this before but one time there was a fight happening at one of the concerts and he stopped the entire concert to break it up and told them they were ruining the show for everyone.
He is also one of the most determined, strong and headstrong people I have ever heard of as well. Towards the end when he was really sick he told the band to write songs for him to record because he just wanted to keep singing until he died. One of my favourite stories of him is when he was recording The Show Must Go On he was so sick he could barely stand and Brian didn't think he could do it. Freddie told Brian "I'll fucking do it darling," then he had some vodka and finished the song in one go. In my opinion that is one of the best performances he has done just fucking listen to it and you'll see. There's a reason that's one of my fav songs.
He also apparently never complained about being sick and eventually went off of his aids meds because he already knew he was going to die and just accepted it.
He loved cats as well and that's super sweet to me. He had ten cats, Tiffany, Delilah, Miko, Romeo, Tom, Jerry, Dorothy, Goliath, Lily and Oscar. Delilah was Freddie's favourite and he made a song for her. Tiffany's my favourite. He also dedicated his solo album "Mr Bad Guy" to all the cats and cat lovers of the world.
HE LOVES HIS HUSBAND AND IT FUCKING SHOWS. Freddie and Jim got each other rings and called each other husband even though they weren't legally married, and Jim said that one day they got into a fight because Freddie wasn't wearing his ring, and after that day Freddie always wore it and never took it off. One time Freddie was having a party and Jim had work the next day so he went to bed and he was almost asleep when he heard Freddie come in with a group of people he was showing around he heard Freddie say to them, "everyone be quiet, my husband's asleep." Jim also did some woodwork stuff and Freddie would ask Jim to make lots of things, and one time he asked him to make some wooden box thing and he gave it to Jim and in the box was some of the original lyrics from some songs.
He was a really good friend as well. He had some friends that would all call each other drag names and one of those friends was Elton John. Elton's drag name was Sharon and Freddie's was Melina. One time Elton saw a piece of artwork that he liked and after Freddie died he got a package that was the artwork and it was from Freddie. On it is said, "To Sharon from Melina" There might have been more on it but I can't remember. Elton cried.
I was reading and watching some things on Freddie yesterday and there were a lot of people who knew him or met him personally talking about him, and when asked what he was really like, they would all say he was a wonderful, kind, sweet guy.
I love him so fucking much you don't even understand he was one of the most gorgeous human beings to have ever existed. I know I have some irl friends on here but they prob won't read this so I'm just gonna say I love him more than some of my irl friends. Not saying more than the ones on here, but some of them.

Lucifer
Believe it or not, Lucifer actually enjoys doing karaoke, especially with his brothers. Not that he would ever admit it, though.
It will take a lot of convincing to get him to do it since he has an image to maintain.
He will never laugh at the person singing no matter how bad they might sound.
Lucifer actually becomes irritated when people laugh at someone's singing abilities. It's fine if someone is purposefully trying to sound bad. But if someone is genuinely trying their best, he will shoot whoever is laughing a nasty glare
Lucifer will most likely sing songs by either Kiss, Queen or Ghost.
Depending on the situation, the songs Lucifer sings might change. Let's say he, for instance, was alone with MC

Mammon doesn't stick to a particular genre of songs. He does like upbeat songs but is not against singing a slow ballad.
Sometimes, he let his brothers pick what song to sing to mix things up.

Once he has sung a song or 2, he will become confident, and you will have to force the mic out of his hands.

Can you imagine tho the aliens reactions when humans all start collectively singing the same song. Like it’s busy in the bar or something, everyone’s doing their own thing, and suddenly Bohemian Rhapsody comes on and every single human in the bar stops what they’re doing to sing along like we’re compelled by some unseen force to do it, maybe some try to pull in their non human friends and get them to join in
You know for a fact Joker and Shepard definitely sang to some stupid y2k songs while sitting on the helm together and roped EDI into joining them.
Especially the meme songs, what's better than a whole ship captain and their pilot singing along to "I LOVE IT!" By Icona pop and Joker really bringing out the vocal cords in the "I CRASHED MY CAR INTO THE BRIDGE. I WATCHED AND LET IT BURN" while in the lower engineering decks, they're not sure why Liara keeps pinging them all panicking and saying "check on joker pls" and "is element zero inflammable?" and "coordinates for the nearest bridge?"
Humans L O V E joint community behaviour. We would do so many things for the bit, walk slower if we hear a song we like in a nearby shop, sing along if it's in a bar or a concert, drum our fingers to the beat if we're in a car with a strangers, have a rhythm to our footsteps when listening to music through headphones.
There are so many different songs, so many different instruments! A vast ocean of potential with more than a 100k songs being uploaded per day based on Spotify.
Hell have you seen these videos of military marches where the soldiers have to sing along to something like "I'm a barbie girl" or "call me maybe" and not laugh as a way to build discipline?
I bet you alliance marines still use the same technique with humans, so all the alliance ships and personals have so many songs memorised back from their training days.
Captian Anderson taking the crew to after a successful mission to unwind and the bar just happened to play a tone familiar to the human ear? Of course the literal whole drunk crew of the Normandy will sing like their it's their last day alive. Some yelling, some quietly, some so offbeat but confident and others nailing the beat perfectly but don't wanna look like show offs.
Humans are so adorable omfg, they love doing things in groups and they'd join stranger humans in singing along to a song they like. Humans love playing even as adults and singing is just a form of play. So is poker, billiard and so many things.
Garrus would definitely be roped into it, give him a hard hitting song about being a winner and he's so on board with the rowdy humans tugging him along to join and commenting on how they've never heard a turian sing before.
Tali would be so shy about it but maybe if it's a nerdy song about something she loves? Some human must have wanted to fuck spaceships and wrote something about it.
Oh and parades and ceremonies too! World cup opening and closing songs! The fan cheers in matches and concerts! Humans invented being cheerleaders and each human has one inside them ready to come out the second their alien friend is hesitant about something and needs a bit of enabling from good old chaotic humans.
Dude, just imagine karaoke night with all human songs. In ME1 boring rover planet exploration, Shepard and Ashley definitely sing along to a playlist they had Kaidan install into the car and he snuck some of his favourite songs in their to join them with.
With time and cycling team members, at first, the aliens are weirded out, wtf is this some kind of cult.
But then they're like.
And it just becomes a tradition to sing along while on long car rides on planets. Sometimes, you catch Wrex humming the lyrics while on long elevator rides. Other times, Liara will have the song playing in the background while she works.
It's just so fun to introduce the aliens to how colorful life can be when you sing along, dance without knowing all the steps and being a silly little race.
On a less pop and enthusiast drunks note.
There are also the emotional songs, ones from sad movies or plays. The known songs people play in wedding slow dances or after a break up. A bunch of humans would sing it slowly, lovingly, emotions showing through the sheer importance this song ment for them.

Hello ! How are you ? 🖤 Do you think you could write headcanons for the Ghouls going to karaoke (pleaaaase) ? I just had this thought of them absolutely having a blast while singing Bohemian Rhapsody (don’t ask me why 💀😭)

also i got a little carried away so i do apologize for that y’all 😭😭
- The ghouls are allowed one sort of fun outing to town per week
- Copia is required to chaperone but he’ll let them pick what they want to do and where they want to go, he just goes along to supervise
- To keep everything fair, the ghouls get to write down one idea each for what they want to do, they put the ideas in a hat, and draw one each week until they’ve done everyone’s idea
- On Friday night the pack gathers around the hat and Cirrus pulls a slip with the words “Karaoke bar” on it
- So karaoke it is
- On Saturday night all 8 of them and Copia pile into one of the ministry’s van and off they go
- They enter a mostly empty little karaoke bar and get a private room for singing
- They also order a bunch of drinks
- Swiss insists on going first and gives a very unique rendition of No Hands
- Dew and Sunshine cheer him on of course
- Cirrus and Aether absolutely kill their choice of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
- The others can’t help but give Mountain an amused glance every time his name comes up in the song
- He is very much not amused
- Cumulus goes next and sings Halo by Beyoncé so beautifully that Copia rethinks her being an Air Ghoul because she HAS to be part siren
- “Show off” Dew jokingly mutters when she’s done but Rain slaps him on the arm anyway
- Sunshine decides she wants to sing I Won’t Say I’m In Love from the Hercules soundtrack and gets Swiss and Aether to be the muses
- They do the little dances and everything
- Like i’m talking full on movie accurate choreography
- Rain and Mountain seem sort of reluctant at first but once they realize Disney songs are an option they are all for it
- They do Under The Sea from The Little Mermaid, Hakuna Matata from The Lion King, I’ll Make A Man Outta You from Mulan, and more
- Aether cuts them off after they sing The Bare Necessities for the second time
- After Dew has one too many margaritas (he drank 6) he BODIES Rap God by Eminem and Tap In by Saweetie
- When he starts singing CPR by Cupcakke Copia knows it’s time to go
- “But youuu haven’t sung anything yet Cardi!” Sunshine drunkenly points out from the couch where she’s leaning all of her body weight on a fast asleep Cirrus
- All the ghouls turn to Copia with nods of agreement
- “I— eh, eh-heh. That is true. I suppose one more song wouldn’t hurt.” Copia agrees
- He wanted to do Piano Man by Billy Joel but that wasn’t an option
- So he goes with Bohemian Rhapsody
- And boy was that a choice
- As soon as the ghouls hear the intro they get so hyped up
- Copia sings the intro and verse 1 and 2 by himself
- Dew and Aether vocalize the guitar solo but it’s really off pitch
- The ghouls join in verse 3 and they all do the high pitched voice
- They do the little call and response with Copia
- Sunshine, Rain, and Cumulus song the “Let me go” part and the other five ghouls sing the “We will not let you go” part
- When it’s all over they end up super giggly and in high spirits
- Then they got kicked out because Dew got too excited and lit a couch on fire
- But it was an overall 10/10 experience
If you read all of this to the end, you’re a real one! Also does anyone know of that tiktok with that group of boys wearing like navy blue bedsheets as togas and lip syncing to I Won’t Say I’m In Love cause that’s exactly what I imagine Swiss and Aether doing while Sunshine sings. Someone please know what I’m talking about 😭😭

Bicycle Race
Inspired by Queen and my oblivious self as a child:

Steve liked Queen. He’d hum along to the music while driving, or whenever it came along on the radio. While he never said he was an avid fan, he had a few songs on rotation on his mixtape. We Will Rock You, Somebody To Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, Bohemian Rhapsody. All great, fun tunes to pop into the player when he felt like it.
But there was one song that Steve always perked up at. Where his eyes got a little shiny, and he’d sing along to no matter who was in the car with him.
Eddie learned this about Steve pretty early on in their friendship. With the former king of Hawkins driving him around so much, he was bound to see this side of him.
“I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike~!”
Steve had a great voice, Eddie realized. Even if the music wasn’t exactly his scene, he could listen to Steve sing along for hours.
“I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it where I like~!”
Bitting back a joke, the metalhead focused on Steve instead. On the way he danced in his seat, tapping in time with the music. At the way he knew the lyrics by heart, and the way he giggled through “I say hey man, Jaws was never my scene and I don't like Star Wars!” With a little “Fuck You Keith!” Added on with so much gusto, Eddie knew he had to ask about it one day.
The third time Bicycle Race came on when they were in the car together, Eddie was ready. Was it a dumb idea? Probably. Did he hope Steve would find it funny anyway? Absolutely.
They were sitting in front of a long red light. Steve was jamming along in his seat, singing away like usual. He had asked once, if Eddie minded, and the memory of how quick Eddie was to assuring that he didn’t was only just a bit embarrassing.
“Fuck you Keith~!”
Eddie hoped his smile wasn’t too noticeable, or the way he swallowed down a laugh. He needed to be ready.
“You say Rolls-“
“I say Royce!”
Steve stumbled, blinking over at Eddie, who was already looking at him. “You say God give me a choice!” Eddie added, internally praying to whatever cosmic being who would hear him that Steve didn’t get annoyed.
The smile Steve flashed him was beautiful.
“You say Lord-!“
“I say Christ-!”
“I don't believe in Peter Pan, Frankenstein or Superman, All I wanna do is-!”
A loud honk interrupted them. The two jumped, looking up at the green light and then at the man driving past them with a waving fist. Steve looked at Eddie, Eddie looked at Steve.
“Bicycle~?” Eddie sang, laughter making his shoulders shake. Steve wheezed, soon driving down the road. “Bicycle!”
“I want to ride it where I like~!”
The song soon ends, but the two were still giggling over it. “I didn’t know you liked Queen?” Steve ventured, turning a corner. “Like, it’s not very uh..metal?” He added, almost like he was trying not to offend him. “I don’t listen to him a lot, no, but Y’know that song kinda speaks to me.” Eddie jokes, looking over at Steve knowingly, only for him to look confused.
“It’s the first one you heard too?” He ventures, and Eddie weighs his next words carefully. “Nah, it’s uh…cuz I’m Bi. Or well, I usually go with Pan but there aren’t a lot of Pan songs.”
There’s a long silence, and Eddie can feel the ache in his stomach. In his heart. Had he misread Steve wrong? “I’m just joking man, I-“
Steve starts laughing. “Wait, that’s what that song is about? Oh my god…Well, that explains a few things about myself.” He turns to look over at Eddie, who slow blinks. “Wait you-“
“Yeah.” Steve admits, and he’s gazing at Eddie with a look that left the metalhead’s cheeks heating up. “I thought I just realized it this year, but I guess even back then some part of me knew.” He snorts, leaning back against the seat with a heavy sigh. “You’re the only other person I’ve said this to other than Robin.”
Eddie fiddles with one of his rings. “You’re the first person I’ve told directly, other than Wayne.”
The rest of the drive isn’t eventful, but as Steve drives Eddie up to his trailer, the two pause as another song floats from the speakers. Steve smiles, tawny brown eyes shifting over to look at Eddie. There was a hope in his eyes that lured Eddie back into the car. The sound of it clicking closed barely registered to the metalhead as Steve’s voice filled his mind.
“Can anybody find me somebody to love~?”

My greatest life achievement still, to this day, is to hear someone on karaoke queue say there is no one who can sing Bohemian Rhapsody and to not to do so, because everyone would be bad with it and that he hoped no one would even try that night.
And I was right in front of him and sang it since I already picked it and came back and he said it was awesome and he changed his mind.
And it wasn't that I sang it. I just went in there and let the audience in when it mattered, since everyone wants to sing it. That's the super secret key. Everyone wants to sing Bohemian Rhapsody. So if you pick it at karaoke, you need to be prepared to share. And any karaoke host should know to keep both mics active.
I've once even sang it as duetto with someone who didn't know the lyrics and only sang "so you can thankmeandidimyeyeesoyoudodomemeee'edidimedidiidiiii". It was a hit! Not because we sang well but because we were so drunk that we let the audience do everything.
So no, Bohemian Rhapsody is not a bad choice to sing on karaoke. But you need to learn to share. That is the cardinal sin of the song, someone being an absolute asshole of a diva and being offended when people want to join in.

This scene... I will have to watch it again and again... It's the first and only time I think we've ever seen aziraphale feel so guilty : he feels guilty for lying, but not for the lie in itself. And Crowley offers him acceptation (rather than forgiveness) : if there's nothing to forgive then there's never been anything wrong. So we can just be, next to one another. And still the scene ends with Crowley referring to his demonic nature, as if they can't escape what the world made them to be

My Movie Review: "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"
I'm FINALLY getting around to writing this movie review after all of the unfortunate craziness that's been going on in my life for the past two months.....🤪🤦🏾♀️
Anyway, I saw “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” at theaters over a month ago lol! 😅 I just wanted to share my own personal Movie Review, and see what you all maybe thought about the film as well.
**NOTE: I will first start off by giving a very general overview/review of the movie overall, and then further down below, I will discuss the pros and cons from the movie, and will go more in-depth and be more candid with how I felt about the movie. 😊
With that said….
OVERALL:
Overall, I felt like this movie was the type of film that someone who is a fan of Whitney's music might want to check out just for the sheer enjoyment of her music alone.
I had forgotten how many great hits Whitney had over the years, and how many of her songs have been iconic to me growing up. I've always been a huge fan, and so this movie was a nice tribute to her music. I got chills down my spine during some of her performance scenes. 😊 I was even singing and dancing along to most of her music lol. 😂 There were quite a few things that I didn't know about Whitney's personal life (especially her younger life) that this movie seemed to touch on a little bit, so that was interesting. Personally? I felt like the acting of Naomi, Ashton, Nafessa, and Tamara Tunie especially, really stood out in this film imo.
PROS:
The music was great!
The acting was decent
I liked the "back-in-time" 80s and 90s wardrobe/fashions lol
They tried their best to make the cast look like the real Whitney/Bobby/Clive/Cissy/Bobbi Christina, etc.
I feel like I learned a lot more about Whitney's younger life, and her relationship with Robyn than I knew about.
I actually felt like Nafessa kind of stole the show in her scenes with Naomi. 👀
CONS:
I hate to say it.... But the main thing that took me out of this movie each and every time was the fact that Naomi looked NOTHING AT ALL like Whitney HOUSTON!!!! 😤😡 Usually I'm not that picky and I don't really care as much and I can suspend my disbelief even if the actor doesn't look exactly like the real person in history because their acting is so good, but for some reason, with this movie, I just couldn't do it.....I'm sorry! I would hear Whitney's VOICE singing, but then when I would LOOK at the actress, it just took me out of the whole entire scene. :(
I almost felt like it was someone cosplaying as Whitney Houston. To her credit, Naomi is a great actress... But I just kept asking myself throughout the whole entire movie: "You mean to tell me there were NO African-American actresses who looked a LITTLE like Whitney that they could have chosen for this role??"
Whoever wrote this film certainly gave Bobby Brown the "Good Edit", cuz ummmm..... 👀 In this movie they almost made it seem like Bobby and Whitney just had regular normal spats like most couples, and we all know THAT is a lie. 😒🙄 I'm shocked they didn't show her with not one black eye in the film, nor did they even allude to him hitting her. But oh well....
My other gripe with this movie was the fact that I didn't feel like enough money was put into it. I feel like this movie should have been BIGGER. I have seen at least two Whitney biopics now (a made-for-TV one, and this movie), and EACH and every single time, I feel like they just don't do Whitney's life story justice. I feel like it's always some low-budget type deal. 🥴 I'm sorry, but after seeing awesome biopics like "Ray", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Elvis", "JFK", "Malcolm X", etc. , I just can't with this biopic. It's just NOT on the same level as those others at all. It makes me sad that it almost felt like they didn't even TRY with this biopic. 😔
MY OVERALL SCORE: 6/10 - Overall, if you love Whitney's iconic music, and just want to have a great time dancing and enjoying a light-hearted film, then check it out! But if you're expecting this film to be on any sort of level as other biopics done.... Then, you're going to be sorely disappointed. 😔 They just didn't put as much MONEY into this film as I would have hoped. I just hope that Michael's biopic has some BIG money behind it. I just feel like Whitney's biopic deserved better...and I would have started by casting someone else as the lead. 👀
I gave this movie a chance even despite my overwhelming feeling that the actress looked NOTHING like Whitney. I tried...But it did make a difference in some of my enjoyment of the film. (no offense) Maybe it's because I actually remember when Whitney was alive lol. Anyway.... Overall, it's a fun movie to watch at least once, and I encourage anyone who is just a fan of her music to check it out. I would say that it's streamable.... It's not one you have to watch on the big screen in other words. It was good fun though! So, definitely one worth checking out if you're a fan of Whitney's music. 😊👍

Things I noticed/thought while watching GO S2 (again) Episode 1
In the intro we can see a tombstone with ‘Adam’ written on it. It also says ‘I do not understand, surely your very excistence requires (the end) of the world (…)’ I think Adam changed the world a lot more than just bringing the Bentley and the bookshop back. He might have changed it in minute details, but having great effects after a while. I might write another post on all the other odd things I noticed.
Maggie makes spelling mistake, demons can’t spell, hmmm. This seems weird to just put that in there without it meaning something, yet it also seems too simple.
Crowley wondering what the point of it all is can be seen as the thoughts of a former demon who is very scared and anxious for his (and Aziraphale’s) fragile excistence. Could it also be interpreted as a genuine question though? As someone who does not believe in any god, I’ve wondered this too. What is the point? You make a universe, you make angels who should do your bidding no questions asked, the ones that do ask questions (not a banishable offence in my eyes, I agree with Angel!Crowley, who is guarding the guards?) get thrown into a pool of boiling sulphur to become demons. You make the whole human race (and don’t get me started on the Garden of Eden), plan to destroy it after 6000 years while angels and demons can have a big fight to decide who is the best?! They portray it as being good of evil, choosing sides, but they are equally bad, except Hell is worse because they have leaky pipes and it’s very gloomy. Also, I love his hair this season even if I prefer the Season 1 hair (which is why I dyed mine red recently, I love it <3). I do wonder if the different shade has a secret meaning? Also because in the minisodes his hair is the more gingery variety instead of the more red variety in present day.
When Aziraphale visits Maggie, we can hear the song ‘Don’t tell me what to do’ by Pam Tillis. Here are the lyrics: Is this foreboding or what?!
It seems strange to me that Michael and Beelzebub just speak on the phone like that, I thought they were sworn enemies, and why would/should Michael trust anything a demon says? (And vice versa tbh).
Crowley wiggling his feet as he enters the Bentley is adorable. It is because he doesn’t want to get dirt in the car or because he is clumsy, we might never know…
I love this version of Bohemian Rhapsody in the background in the coffee shop!
What does ‘ask him properly!’ mean exactly?
I love the pitch Aziraphale uses to pronounce the ‘no’ when he says he wants Crowley to help him. Also the start of their communication being all over the place. Please talk to each other! 😩
Very impressive lightning strike by Crowley. I hope we get a season 3, because I am willing to bet we will see a very powerful Crowley, for reasons unknown to us so far.
Uriel’s delivery of the line ‘… and that’s going to be you’ is too good, I can replay that forever.
The way I squealed when I first saw the scene with ‘Good old fashioned lover boy’.
Oh my god, Crowley rolls his eyes right as he starts the apology dance 😄
A&C being so pleased with their miracle, and then the cut to the alarm in Heaven will never not be hilarious.
We can hear the choir singing Everyday is getting closer in the credits…

Gwen! She swears she’s not that fucked up but as soon as Bohemian Rhapsody comes on (curtesy of Duncan) she is on that shit. Before she can even finish the first line everyone is screaming with her lmao
Geoff, Heather, and Courtney. Geoff because he’s just that type of party guy. Heather and Courtney because the minute they hear there’s gonna be a game their minds go to competition mode.
Oh boy, it’s gotta be DJ. He’s just in and out of the kitchen trying to make sure everyone’s hydrated and it just hits him.
Trent! He swears he’s gonna be responsible and only have two drinks at most, but one thing leads to another and he’s fucking plastered. It’s okay though, there’s enough room for everyone to crash at Geoff’s house, and if not there’s Uber.
Just all the guys, but Alejandro is definitely the first one to initiate it. Geoff gets pissed because Bridgette’s like side eyeing him (yikes WT mention) so he just takes his button up off. Then, Duncan because he wants to impress Courtney (even though she swears she’s not looking). Trent and DJ just shrug and join.

Opinion on cover design: simple, effective, lovely, sets the mood and the tone of the album. and she has such a habit of...overdoing visuals? her last half dozen music videos or so have been like, baroque in how over the top their visual design. like, willow the video does not match how the song or the rest of the album feels. idk. the simplicity here works for me, but I think sometimes she can't let something Be.

Least favourite song: cowboy like me (it's otherwise a great song, but i so dislike the opening stanza 'dancing is a dangerous game' mam. you can do better than that. you've a whole album of evidence.)

Eddie considers his options. He sucks air through his teeth. There’s a pickle. And he’s in it. Because there was a ladder. And now there is not. Why he’s up here? Not important. The fact is, he’s up here and there was reported storm-a-brewin’ and Steve’s at work for another half hour and he’s starting to get the heebies.
It’s not that he’s afraid of heights. It’s this god awful wind jabbing him like it’s an MAA fighter and that lil inconvenience of being scantily clad (skank-ily is probably not a word, but closer to the truth, what, with the tank top and his runner shorts). The non-fit was excusable for a quick [redacted] on the roof, but now that the wind is picking up and throwing punches, Eddie’s scared that he’ll be knocked back. And despite his best and persistent childhood wishes, he does not have wings.
So he can’t fly and he can’t feel his fingertips and nose and wouldn’t you know, it’s just his luck, it’s also starting to sprinkle. He watches a bit as the shingles dot a darker brown, before glaring up into the air like it’s the rains fault he’s sat it. He gets cozy with the chimney, holding on for dear life and starts to sing Bohemian Rhapsody
”I don’t wanna diiiiieeee…”
Eddie hears a car pull in 20 some odd minutes in this hell storm later. His knight in a crystal-spring-smelling smock kicks open the door and immediately notices something awry.
“What the fuck?” Steve says, grabbing the ladder and trying to untangle it from the roses it had landed on and squashed.
“Steve, honey, mind passing that round this way?” Eddie tries to say, but through the violent bout of shivers it sounds more like st-steve, hon-hon-honey, mind pa-passssssing that round th-this way?
Eddie’s teeth clack while Steve directs his attention to the sound and blinks away the rain. Eddie peers over the gutter and waves. Well, he think he waves. He’s part icicle now. You can probably thrown him against the asphalt and he would shatter.
“WHAT THE FUCK!” Steve says with a growl, though he’s already setting up the ladder.
He starts to climb himself. Eddie frowns.
“You’re home early. Did you get the Doritos?” Eddie says and then curls into himself.
“Baby, really need you to think about your next set of words.” Steve says as he reaches the top.
